There was an uproar when police raided a hotel in Meerut, Uttar Pradesh. This hotel has an on-site casino. Bets worth tens of millions of pounds were made. The city’s rich were found gambling here. It is reported that eight people, including women, have been arrested on the spot. The hotel owner has also been arrested. Police said a large number of coins worth about Rs 15 crore have been seized from the casino.
In fact, based on secret information, the police raided a hotel on Garh Road in Meerut late at night (around 1.45 am). The raid was carried out on the orders of the SSP. The team that carried out the raid included three police officers as well as constables and inspectors from several police stations. During the raid, police discovered a casino operating on the first floor of the hotel.
It is reported that 8 people, including women, were arrested on the spot. Many of the city’s biggest names were involved in the game. A case has been registered against him under the Gambling Act. The police action caused an uproar. But because of the power, no one can escape.
The Meerut SSP has received confidential information that a casino is being run at the hotel ‘Harmony Inn’ in which prominent personalities of the city are placing bets. Based on this information, a team of three directors was formed, including a female director. A team of CO Kotwali, CO Daurala, ASP Brahmpuri conducted a raid and on sight of the police, a stampede broke out inside the casino.
Police seized casino gaming equipment and a large amount of cash at the scene. Police have captured CCTV footage from the hotel. Information is being gathered on those arrested. Eight people including hotel owner Naveen Arora and his partner Amit Chandan were arrested. Naveen Arora had earlier served as the metropolitan treasurer of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).
Meerut SP Ayush Vikram said that late yesterday night, information was received that the “Harmony Inn” hotel in the Nauchandi police station area was charging entry fees and running an illegal casino. A team of three COs raided it and found the information to be correct. Eight people, including hotel owners and operators, have been arrested. A case has been registered against the illegal casino and gambling department at the hotel. Police also seized CCTV footage from the hotel. Other licenses held by the hotel are also under investigation.
