Government blocks 10 social media accounts in big crackdown on fake news about flying bombs

In India this week, cybersecurity agencies blocked about 10 social media accounts that made false threats about bombs on planes. Official sources provided this information on Thursday. The accounts were suspended after being analyzed by a joint team from cyber, aviation security and intelligence agencies, sources told the news agency.

10 social media accounts suspended

Let us tell you that from Monday until now, about 10 social media accounts have been suspended or blocked, most of them on the “X” platform. These threats affect domestic and international flights in India.

The agencies found words commonly used in the false threats included “bomb,” “blood everywhere,” “explosive device,” “this is no joke,” “you’re all going to die,” and “a bomb was planted” including “yes.”

Increased cyber patrol

According to sources, cyber security agencies are now closely monitoring all such social media accounts so that links or trends of these threats can be detected on the dark web. In addition to this, we are working to trace the location of emails and threat handles. It is suspected that some of these may be operated abroad.

Let us tell you that this series of threats started on Monday. More than two dozen airlines in India have been affected by these false threats posted on social media. Although upon investigation all threats were found to be false, they caused inconvenience to hundreds of passengers and crew.

Due to these false threats, fighter jets from Singapore and Canada had to be deployed to assist Indian aircraft in two incidents. These incidents cause huge losses to aviation safety agencies, passenger services and operating costs.
