Maharashtra Assembly elections: Sharad Pawar claims consensus on 200 seats in Maha Vikas Aghadi

With the announcement of the Maharashtra assembly elections, talks on the distribution of seats between the two parties Mahayutti and Maha Vikas Aghadi are intensifying. Maha Vikas Aghadi includes Congress, NCP (Sharad Pawar) and Shiv Sena (Uddhav Thackeray) parties. On Thursday, NCP (SP) chief Sharad Pawar claimed that an agreement had been reached for Maha Vikas Aghadi’s allies to share 200 seats. Let us tell you that the total number of assembly seats in Maharashtra is 288 and the Election Commission has announced that elections will be held in the state on November 20.

Sharad Pawar told reporters in Kalad in Maharashtra’s Satara district that the Haryana assembly election results will not have an impact on the upcoming assembly elections in Maharashtra.

When asked about seat sharing, Sharad Pawar said he was not directly involved in the seat sharing process. NCP-SP state unit president Jayant Patil represented the party in the talks. He said the seats from which the National Congress Party (SP) will contest the elections include Satara constituency. Only Jayant Patil can decide that.

Haryana election results will not affect

In the Maharashtra Assembly elections, there is competition between Maha Vikas Aghadi and Mahayuthy. Maha Vikas Aghadi’s party is competing against the ruling grand alliance led by the Shiv Sena, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the Ajit Pawar-led NCP.

In June 2022, the Shiv Sena party split and formed the Shiv Sena (Eknath Shinde) and the Shiv Sena (Uddhav Thackeray), while in July 2023, Sharad Pawar’s nephew Ajit Pawar forms independent party. However, the Election Commission believes that Ajit Pawar’s party is the real NCP. This is the first assembly election in Maharashtra after bifurcation. Sharad Pawar made it clear that the Haryana Assembly election results will not affect the Maharashtra Assembly elections.

Will Jayant Patil’s status improve after the elections?

Meanwhile, the National Congress Party (SP) has urged the Election Commission to freeze the trumpet symbol from the list of available symbols as it resembles the “trumpet blower” symbol officially assigned to the party. During the Lok Sabha elections, the Election Commission allotted trumpet symbols to some independent candidates. Sharad Pawar said this created a chaotic situation. His party has since called for the trumpet symbol to be frozen.

On Maha Vikas Aghadi’s CM face, Sharad Pawar said the issue has been resolved between the three components – Shiv Sena (UBT), Congress and NCP (SP). However, Sharad Pawar said Jayant Patil’s role may increase after the elections. This has triggered speculations that Sharad Pawar may appoint Jayant Patil as the chief minister’s spokesperson.
