What’s going on?

The case took place on September 24 when the accused contacted Ahmedabad-based gold bullion dealer Mehul Thakkar to purchase gold. 2.1 kg of gold was traded at Rs 16 lakh. Thakkar sealed the deal at his Angadiya office on CG Road. Money is for businessmen. When Taka’s employees got there, three men were already there with money counting machines.

Two of the accused collected the gold and handed over 26 packets of fake Rs 500 notes to Thakkar’s employees. The goons said they would take away the remaining Rs 30 lakh from a neighboring office and flee the spot with the gold. Thereafter, gold and silver trader Mehul Thakkar lodged a complaint with Navrangpura police station. Thakkar said that actor Anupam Kher’s picture was printed on the fake Rs 500 notes. After receiving the report, the police immediately started investigating the matter.

Police are searching for remaining suspects

The use of fake currency notes in such scams is nothing new, but the use of Rs 500 notes bearing actor Anupam Kher’s picture is quite shocking. Police are still investigating the origin of the counterfeit banknotes and the people involved in printing them. Meanwhile, police are busy searching for the remaining suspects.

After this case, all traders have increased their vigilance and taken extra precautions to avoid fraud. Police also said caution should be exercised when making such large transactions and all safety measures should be followed when making cash transactions.
