Omar Abdullah will be sworn in tomorrow and these 10 leaders, including the Congress president, can become ministers

Eventually, a new government will be formed in Jammu and Kashmir. Omar Abdullah will be sworn in as chief minister. This National Assembly government will be formed with the support of the Congress, which formed a pre-election alliance. As things stand, the Congress is likely to get only one ministerial post in Abdullah’s government, while the party is considering two posts. Sources said the government will keep departmental representation in mind and mentioned a number of names who may get ministerial posts.

Omar Abdullah will be sworn in for his second term as prime minister on Tuesday at the Sher Kashmir International Conference Center on the banks of Dal Lake. During this period, invitations have been extended to opposition chief ministers, leaders and officials. With the Maharashtra-Jharkhand assembly elections announced, it will also be a platform for the opposition parties to show their strength. The extent of the role the Congress will play in the National Assembly government will not be known until after the government is formed, but many MLAs from the National Assembly are likely to be offered ministerial posts.

Possible ministers in Abdullah’s cabinet

If sources are to be believed, the Congress party will get one of the ten cabinet posts and state president Tariq Kalla is likely to get it from the party’s side. Apart from this, Sakina Itu, Mir Saifullah, Abdul Rahimrath from the National Conference, Ali Mohammad Sagar/Salman Sagar from Kashmir, Javed Rana, Surinder Chaudhary, Sajjad Shaheen and Satish Sharma can be appointed as ministers.

Congressional interest in Abdullah’s government

A day ahead of the swearing-in ceremony of the Omar Abdullah-led Jammu and Kashmir government, alliance partner Congress party appointed its general secretary Ghulam Ahmed Mir as the Congress leader in the legislature. After ten years, Jammu and Kashmir will have a parliament. The Congress party, which jointly contested the elections, wanted two ministerial posts from the National Conference, but the NC rejected the offer. In this case, the party may have to settle for just one post and in this regard the party also has hidden interests, it has to be with the Maharashtra-Jharkhand Bharatiya Janata Party (alliance) direct competition.
