October 14, 2024: Actress Pooja Bhatt has expressed her displeasure over a video that shows a group of young people singing inside the Mumbai Metro during Navratri. The video shows young people dressed in festive attire, occupying seats and floors, loudly singing spiritual songs including ‘Bharat Ka Baccha Baccha Jai Shri Ram Bolega’ and Gujarati Garba songs.
While some viewers appreciated the festive atmosphere, others criticized the act as a public nuisance. Pooja Bhatt, who shared the video on her X (formerly Twitter) account, was among those who condemned the act. The video was originally posted by independent journalist and author Kunal Purohit, who noted the growing influence of “Hindu pop music” across different segments of society.
Purohit wrote in his post: “This is indeed what Hindu pop music is designed to do – it creates an easy appeal among all classes in rural and urban areas. Rich upper class youngsters think that in the metro There’s no problem singing this song.”
Pooja Bhatt responded to the video by criticizing the misuse of public space. She said: “How is this allowed in a public place? It doesn’t matter whether it is Hindu pop music, Christmas carols, Bollywood blockbusters or anything in between. Public space cannot be misused in this way. How can the authorities And why is this allowed? Yes, let’s start the abuse.”
Filmmaker O’Neill also expressed his agreement with Bart, commenting: “It’s a shame that something nasty is passed off as cute and cultural…and there’s absolutely nothing spiritual or religious about it…it’s just Arrogance and disrespect towards others.”
In a subsequent post, Pooja Bhatt spoke about the importance of adhering to basic civic rules to maintain law and order. She added: “There is no hope of real law and order if we cannot abide by basic rules. All political parties desecrated the city by hoarding illegally, the subway was turned into a party zone and firecrackers were set off in the middle of the street… The attackers used as a cover.”
Her comments referred to the recent shooting of NCP leader Baba Siddique, who was killed by attackers on Dussehra night. Gangster Lawrence Bishnoi, who had previously threatened actor Salman Khan, claimed responsibility for Siddique’s assassination.
