An old video of Ola Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Bhavish Aggarwal discussing ‘work-life balance’ went viral again on social media platform X on Wednesday as netizens reacted to his tiff with stand-up comedian Kunal Kamra.

In an earlier interview to news portal YourStory, the Ola CEO described work-life balance as an “incorrect construct” and admitted that people may not agree with his contrarian views.

“I don’t think work-life balance is the right concept and again it is a contrarian view and there will be people who will disagree with me. Many people will disagree with me,” Agarwal said in an interaction with a news portal said.

Agarwal also mentioned some historical ideas he followed, such as the concept of Saturday and Sunday, which he claimed was not an Indian thing but a Western thing.

“In India, we never had Saturdays and Sundays; only Saturdays and Sundays. We have a lunar calendar and we have holidays based on the lunar calendar,” Agarwal said. “We have one or two days a month,” he added.

The Ola CEO explained that the concept is a “Western import” that gained traction after the industrial revolution.

Shares of Ola Electric Mobility closed 0.3% lower at $95.15 per share today.

Netizen reaction

Reactions to Agarwal’s resurfaced interview flooded social media.

“In capitalist countries, they just want people to do donkey work 24/7, and then they can justify it with paid campaigns. [sic]”, Prayag Tiwari criticizes capitalists for overworking people and defends them through paid campaigns.

Vedant G, a student at Goa National Institute of Technology, shared a screenshot of a humorous comment by Instagram user Maniakiduniyahd, suggesting that Aggarwal should sell ‘raths’, i.e. chariots, instead of e-scooters.

How did the Agarwal-Kamla feud begin?

The video raised eyebrows in the exchange between Agarwal and Kamla, who asked Ola and Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari in a post on X The dusty two-wheeler parked in front of what appears to be an Ola showroom or service facility is at the center of the problem.
