Apple’s latest patent hints at an all-glass MacBook with virtual keyboard

Apple may be developing a new MacBook with an all-glass display, according to a newly granted patent. It is claimed that the device may replace the hardware-based keyboard with an on-screen keyboard, similar to the Asus Zenbook Duo OLED. It is also rumored to have a vibrator module that can produce low-frequency audio output. It’s worth noting that this isn’t the first time such Apple devices have been mentioned. There have been reports over the past few years that this Macbook was in development, and this latest patent only strengthens the notion that it’s possible.

Apple’s all-glass MacBook patented

A patent granted by the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (via PatentlyApple) reveals that Apple may be developing a new electronic device that can provide text input capabilities through its user interface when launched. If this is not the case, it will also have other functions, similar to other surfaces of the case. Presumably, this part is the so-called virtual keyboard and trackpad on the MacBook.

This particular case is also said to be configured to protect the internal components of the purported device and to provide an aesthetically pleasing appearance. However, it is not a mechanism built into any opening of the device. The port’s icon will be mirrored on the case to help users plug it in.

In addition to the all-glass design, the alleged MacBook will also feature a “vibrator module.” The patent document shows that it can produce controlled vibrations through low-frequency output.

So-called vibrator modules can be attached to various surfaces of equipment within a limited height and may be able to simulate low-frequency sounds when used in equipment where there is no space to install specialized components.

However, it’s worth noting that not all patented devices make it to final production. Therefore, it’s unclear whether Apple’s so-called all-glass MacBook design will debut in the future.
