The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), which is probing the rape-murder case of a doctor at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital in Kolkata, made a major revelation in court. Investigating authorities said many of the false records related to the case were created and tampered with within the police station. This was revealed during the interrogation of Tala police station in-charge Abhijeet Mandal and former principal Sandeep Ghosh. Accordingly, the CBI said that both of them need to undergo further interrogation. Thereafter, the court detained the two defendants until September 30 in accordance with the law.

The CBI told the court that hard drives of DVR and CCTV footage of Tala police station were sent to Kolkata CFSL for extraction of data. Based on the above data and reports, further custodial interrogation of the accused is required, which is expected to be completed within a day or two. The mobile phones of the two defendants have also been sent to CFSL for data extraction. Based on these two data, it is possible to obtain important evidence.

The investigation agency stated that the investigation of this case is ongoing. Pursuant to the September 20 order, the Kolkata CFSL director was directed to send an expert on September 23 to provide information regarding polygraph and narcotics tests. But in his absence this was not possible and the case was heard at Sealdah Court on September 25. The investigation into the case is being carried out under the supervision of the Supreme Court.

Even before this, the CBI had made major revelations about the negligence of the Kolkata Police. The investigation agency said the clothes and belongings of the main accused Sanjay Roy were recovered two days after his arrest. The delay came despite police knowing items belonging to the defendant could be crucial to establishing his role in the crime. Sanjay Roy was arrested on August 10 based on CCTV footage.

In the case, former principal Sandeep Ghosh and Tala police station in-charge Abhijeet Mandal were accused of destroying evidence related to the incident and diverting the investigation. Even in the CBI investigation, both parties are not cooperating. A police officer said there was a possibility of criminal conspiracy between the main accused and his co-accused. Both of them were interrogated face-to-face on CCTV footage from Tala police station, the crime scene and the medical college.

The Central Bureau of Investigation arrested Sandeep Ghosh on September 2 in connection with the hospital’s financial irregularities case.
