Let us tell you that Arif Anwar Hashimi had a long criminal history before this. He occupied the land of Balrampur district police station. In collusion with the police, Hashmi produced false documents and registered them in the revenue records of 2013 with the intention of falsely appropriating 18 decimals (one decimal = 1,435.6 square feet) of land belonging to the police station and then constructing a mausoleum He also allegedly made his brother Maroof Anwar Hashmi a mutawalli.

The police took no action, DM investigated and opened a case

Although there were illegal graves in the police station, the police neither investigated nor complained to the management. During this period, he constantly accused the police of colluding with Hashmi.

Meanwhile, the then district magistrate Arvind Singh took notice of the matter and launched an investigation, which confirmed that Hashemi had illegally occupied the property by forging documents. Thereafter, the SDM filed a complaint and registered a case against Hashmi and his brother Maroof on April 1, 2024, and directed the police to arrest the accused.

Police colluded and asked Hashmi to leave

The next day, when the Sadura police chief went to arrest the accused, Ma’ruf was arrested on the spot but Hashemi fled the scene. Later, the complaint from the police chief reached the magistrate, who had given up and released Hashmi. A magistrate ordered a judicial investigation into the head of the police station, which resulted in him being found guilty.

The district magistrate has submitted a report of this investigation to the government along with a recommendation to sack the inspector. On February 28, SP Gonda also filed a complaint against the alleged inspector for fraud, but even then, he was not dismissed for protection.

Ultimately, the magistrate returned the land occupied by Arif Anwar Hashimi to the government. Thereafter, a letter was written to ED requesting an investigation into the matter. ED registered a case under PMLA and attached Hashmi’s properties in Lucknow, Gonda and Balrampur on September 24.
