2024-09-25 13:25:16 : Google Street View is getting one of its biggest updates in recent years. It is now available in nearly 80 countries, some of which have Street View imagery for the first time. The feature, available on Google Earth and Maps, stitches together billions of panoramic images to provide a street-level view that users can access from home. With the update, users will be able to visit even more picturesque locations with a more portable Street View camera.

Google detailed the new updates to Google Earth and Maps in a blog post. Street View is now available in 80 countries, including Australia, Bosnia, Brazil, Denmark, Japan, Liechtenstein, Namibia, Paraguay, Philippines, Rwanda, Serbia and South Africa. The Mountain View-based tech giant also unveiled its latest Street View camera, which it says can be mounted on any car weighing around 7 kilograms.

Updated Street View imagery from around the world will now be available, allowing users to see far-flung locations up close.

It is also working to use its artificial intelligence (AI) cloud removal technology to enhance imagery on Google Earth and Maps. The company is using its Cloud Score+ AI model to remove elements such as clouds, cloud shadows, haze and haze from images. At the same time, it will keep weather patterns such as ice, snow, and mountain shadows visible on the map.

Google also released historical images of Earth. Users will be able to explore changes in geography using its library of satellite and aerial imagery dating back 80 years. The company claims it can help users understand “how forests are affected by human activity and climate change.”

Users can also take advantage of the time-lapse shooting feature to visually understand how a location changes over time. They can access custom projects created in Google Earth directly from the newly designed home screen. The feature is said to be an interactive experience built from millions of satellite images.
