Material

First of all, the person who performs Shraddha should purify himself after bathing. Then choose a clean and sacred place for Shraddha. A holy seat is laid there and prayers are made to the ancestors. Light incense and lamps to worship ancestors and pray for their safety. Make flour or rice dough for Pind Daan. These bodies are anointed with butter and offered to the ancestors along with sesame and barley.
Afterwards, pray to the ancestors. The water used to worship ancestors is called “Tarpan”. Mix black sesame seeds with water and worship your ancestors while meditating. Sesame seeds, barley and flowers can also be used. Chant the mantra “Om Pitribhyah Swadha Namah” during Tarpan.
