Voting for the second phase of the Jammu and Kashmir Assembly will be held today. Polling will be held in this phase on 26 assembly seats in 6 constituencies, of which 3 are in Jammu division and 3 are in the Valley region. Notable candidates in this phase include former chief minister Omar Abdullah, JKPCC chief Tariq Hamid Kala and BJP Jammu and Kashmir chief Ravinder Raina.

Some 2.5 million voters will decide the fate of 239 candidates in the second phase of the election. The Election Commission has set up 3,502 polling stations for the convenience of voters, of which 1,056 are located in cities and 2,446 in rural areas.

Voter Facilities and Transparency

There are many outstanding candidates for Phase 2. Omar Abdullah does not want to contest the elections and is contesting from Ganderbal and Budgam seats. Jammu and Kashmir Congress Committee chief Tariq Hamid is campaigning in Shanteng, Kala Central.

BJP state president Ravinder Raina is campaigning from Nowshera. He won this seat in 2014. To ensure transparency, the Election Commission has provided webcasting facilities at all polling stations. Apart from this, 157 special voting centers have also been set up.

Try to repeat Engineer Rashid’s performance

In the second phase, there is also a face campaigning from behind bars like Engineer Rashid. Separatist leader Sarjan Ahmed Wage, also known as Barkati, has submitted nominations to Bir Wage and Ganderbal and is currently in jail.

Other prominent candidates in the second phase include Apni Party chief Altaf Bukhari (Channapora), former minister Ali Mohammed Sagar (Khanyar), Abdul Rahimrath (Charar-e-Sharif), Chaudhary Zulfikar Ali (Budhal) and Syed Mushtaq Bukhari (Surankote) included. Chaudhry Zulfikar Ali and Syed Mushtaq Bukhari are contesting the elections this time on the ticket of the Bharatiya Janata Party.

The turnout in the first phase was 61.38%. The third phase will take place on October 1, and vote counting will be completed on October 8. This time, there are 93 candidates in Srinagar district, 46 candidates in Badgam district, 34 candidates in Rajouri district, 25 candidates in Poonch district and 21 candidates in Ganderbal district People, there are 20 candidates in Rexi District.
