There is major political unrest in the capital of Rajasthan. Here, eight MPs joined the BJP, dealing a heavy blow to the Congress party. Thereafter, the BJP government appointed party MP Kusum Yadav as acting mayor after deposing Jaipur Heritage Municipal Corporation mayor Munesh Gujjar. The Bhajan Lal government in Rajasthan has suspended Congress MP Munesh Gurjar over the ACB corruption case.

Munesh Gurjar allegedly did not sign the land lease documents but her husband often demanded bribes from people. He was stuck with ACB during Gehlot government. Now, the BJP government has suspended him over the same issue. But a big challenge for the BJP in appointing a mayor is that the party has less than eight councilors to hold a majority. In this situation, eight Congress MLAs joined hands with the BJP on Tuesday. Hence, the BJP appointed him as the Mayor of Jaipur.

Kumar Pal Gautam, director and special secretary, Rajasthan Self-Government Department, who appointed Kusum Yadav as acting mayor, said: “On September 23 , Municipal Corporation Jaipur Heritage Mayor Munesh Gurjar has been suspended. The post of mayor will be reserved for other backward classes. In this case, the state government took advantage of the 2009 Rajasthan Municipalities Act. The power conferred by Section 50(1)(iv)(a) of the Political Code empowers Kusum Yadav, Councilor of Ward No. 74, to hold the office of Mayor.

Mayor of Jaipur needs this number

There are a total of 100 council seats in the Jaipur Heritage Municipal Corporation. Any party needs 51 MPs to gain a majority. According to the 2020 municipal corporation election results, 42 BJP MLAs, 47 Congress MLAs and 11 independent MLAs won the elections. Among them, 9 people support the Congress Party. 2 people support the Bharatiya Janata Party. MPs who have joined the BJP include Manoj Uttam Sharma, Mohammad Zakaria, Mudgal, Sushila Devi Devi, Jyoti Chauhan, Arvind Methi, Santosh Kanwar and Paras Jain. All MPs have forwarded unconditionally signed letters of support to state BJP president Madan Rathod and Union Human Rights Minister Jabbar Singh Hara.

ACB arrests husband of Congress mayor

Let us tell you that on August 4 last year, the ACB raided the residence of Munesh Gurjar and her husband Sushil Gurjar and two agents Narayan Singh and Anil Dubey were arrested for taking a bribe of Rs 2 lakh. Documents related to the lease were also uncovered during the raid. Rs 41 lakh was found in the house of Sushil Gurjar and Rs 8.95 lakh was found in the house of Dalal Narayan Singh.

Investigation substantiated corruption charges against Gurjar’s mayor. A day after the attack, the then Congress government suspended Gujjar as mayor. However, he got relief from the High Court. During the course of investigation, the ACB discovered Gujjar’s involvement, following which the bureau sought prosecutorial sanctions and filed charges against him. A few days ago, the state government had approved filing a case against Gujjar.
