2024-09-24 18:04:49 : Cloudflare has launched AI Audit, a new set of tools designed to give website owners and bloggers more control over their content and how it is used by automated systems. The security tool will enable users to block or allow artificial intelligence (AI) bots that frequently crawl websites to scrape data. The company is offering the tool free to all existing customers. Cloudflare has also added a feature that allows website owners to see detailed analysis of which bots are accessing the platform and their behavior patterns.

With the increasing popularity of generative artificial intelligence technology, there is enthusiasm to use human-created data to train large language models (LLM). This is important not only for creating the base model, but also for advancing and improving it. However, the main issue here is access to publicly available data sources. Most AI companies have already gone through these data sets and now need more data to train AI models.

AI bots are designed to help developers gather more information to train AI models. They can be understood as system programs that imitate real users and can enter websites and copy text, images and video data. These AI bots can grab large amounts of data in a short time and pass it to AI models. Recently, several media companies and large websites filed lawsuits against artificial intelligence companies, accusing them of plagiarism and illegal use of data to feed LL.M.

Cloudflare’s AI auditing tool acts as a layer of protection to prevent such bots from accessing the website. The company revealed in a press release that it has also made improvements to the tool to give users more control over which bots will be restricted and which bots will be allowed access. This is useful when a platform has an agreement with an AI company and doesn’t mind its bots getting the data. Alternatively, website owners may wish to grant access to certain AI models that can be attributed to data sources for better coverage.

Cloudflare emphasized that it is also building a workflow where website owners can set fair prices for their content. On the other hand, AI bot owners will be able to trade with this firewall and once the amount is paid, they will get the right to scan content. The company emphasizes that its marketplace-like tool is beneficial for users who don’t have the bandwidth or resources to negotiate and close deals with every AI company that visits its site.
