2024-09-24 16:36:42 : Meta reportedly plans to announce a new voice mode feature for native Meta AI chatbots. The feature is believed to work similarly to the voice mode of OpenAI’s ChatGPT chatbot, allowing users to have two-way conversations with the artificial intelligence. However, the social media giant is said to have partnered with several celebrities and public figures to include their voices in Meta AI features. The company has reportedly struck deals with John Cena, Kirsten Bell and other celebrities.

Reuters reports that the social media giant has partnered with multiple celebrities to bring their voices to Meta AI. Citing unnamed people familiar with Meta’s plans, the report said there were five celebrities, including John Cena, Kristen Bell, Judi Dench, Awkwafina and Keegan-Michael Key.

When users talk to Meta AI, they hear the voice of the celebrity of their choice respond. Apart from this, the social media platform is also said to have added several universal voice options for users. According to reports, the feature will be rolled out as a new feature of Meta AI on Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp.

Meta reportedly plans to announce the two-way conversation feature at its annual Connect conference starting on Wednesday. The voices are said to be launching first in the US and other English-speaking markets later this week. The social media giant is expected to launch it in other regions later this year. It’s unclear if the feature will come to India.

Additionally, WhatsApp feature tracker WABetaInfo also highlighted that the app plans to add a Meta AI voice mode feature. AI chatbots in the messaging app will reportedly get three British accents, two American accents and five voices of public figures. These universal sounds are said to differ in gender, pitch and regional accent.

Notably, OpenAI rolled out an upgrade to its speech mode during its spring update event, with the company claiming it will release an advanced speech mode that will feature emotional speech and the ability to react to what the user is saying. On the other hand, Google released the Gemini Live feature, which provides similar functionality.
