The fear of man-eating wolves remains alive in Uttar Pradesh’s Baraich district. The forest department is making every effort to capture the sixth possible alpha wolf. On the evening of September 21, a leopard-like animal was captured on CCTV outside a shop in Rajapur Kala village of Khairighat police station under Tehsil Mahsi. As a result, fear arose in the surrounding villages. Villagers call the animal leopard.

Deepak Singh, the owner of the house where the animal was captured on a CCTV camera, said the animal came two days ago on September 21 at around 12pm. There were dogs barking outside the house so he didn’t pay attention and went to bed, and when he checked the CCTV in the morning he saw an animal inside. He immediately informed forest staff and police. The police came but no forest department staff came. When Mr. DFO came around 10 pm on Tuesday, he met me and asked me to be careful.

Leopard captured on CCTV

District DFO Ajit Pratap Singh said over phone that a month ago, when we were conducting Operation Bhediya, he was informed over phone about the presence of leopards at the Maharashtra border. While he was searching, a leopard was spotted in his thermal imaging drone and he also informed the district ranger and MLA Nanpara about this information. He also launched a publicity campaign about it.

In fact, due to the increasing number of tigers in Katraniya Wildlife and Dudhwa National Park, leopards left the forests and migrated south to the Ghagra Basin. Especially when a female leopard has to give birth, she will leave the forest for safety.

Alluvial areas are suitable for leopard habitat.

A leopard needs food, water, shelter and cover, which he gets in the Maharashampara area. There are enough jackals, dogs, blue bulls, or domestic animals in the area for food, and there is no shortage of water in Balechi. There are many large drainage ditches and rivers, as well as sugar cane fields to hide in.

DFO Ajit Pratap Singh said he watched the CCTV video several times. But nothing obviously happened. But leopards are more likely. Judging from its spots and height, it appears to be a leopard. He tells him that the priority now is Operation Wolf because if the sixth wolf is not caught, it will take someone’s child.

Villagers fear the terror of wolves

Let us tell you that man-eating wolves have been terrorizing around 50 villages in Maharishi Tehsil of Balaichi for the past two and a half months. In villages across the region, wolves have become synonymous with fear. Man-eating wolves have claimed the lives of 10 people, including nine children and many animals, while more than 50 people were injured in the attacks. When the leopard’s cry makes people frightened, the wolf, which has become synonymous with death, has not stopped wreaking havoc.
