The Indian Institute of Management Ahmedabad has started the admission process for Ph.D. IIM Ahmedabad will implement a reservation policy for PhD admissions for the first time and OBC, SC, ST and disabled candidates will be given admission in PhD programmes.
Quota will be applicable to these castes
The Indian Institute of Management Ahmedabad (IIMA) has announced that it will implement reservations for PhD admissions from 2025 as per “government guidelines”. Premier Business School did not provide details on how the quota system would be implemented. IIMA last year informed the Gujarat High Court that it may impose reservations in PhD courses for Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes, Other Backward Classes (OBCs) and disabled candidates from 2025.
PIL filed in 2021
Let us tell you that in 2021, a PIL was received in the Gujarat High Court regarding non-implementation of reservation policy in the matter of PhD admissions to IIM Ahmedabad. Thereafter, IIM Ahmedabad provided information about the PhD admission process to the high court. IIM Ahmedabad, while submitting its affidavit, said that by forming an internal committee to implement the retention policy for PhD admissions, the retention policy will be implemented in the PhD admission process from 2025.
The “PhD Admissions 2025” announcement posted on the IIMA website states that “the appointment guidelines of the Indian government will be followed during the admissions period.” The institute will introduce a quota system starting next year. A representative from the IIM media department confirmed that similar reservation issues were mentioned in admission announcements published by leading newspapers this month. The last date to apply for PhD programs is January 20, 2025, and interviews are likely to take place in March-April next year.
IIM Ahmedabad has released the PhD internship application form online from September 19. The application fee is fixed at Rs 500, but the application fee for reserved candidates is Rs 250. This is the first time that IIM Ahmedabad has recruited doctoral students according to the appointment policy. IIM Ahmedabad has never implemented an appointment policy in the recruitment process of doctoral students before.
A total of 471 PhD students have graduated from IIM Ahmedabad PhD program so far. For the year 2025, IIM Ahmedabad invites candidates to apply online for PhD by January 20, 2025. IIM Ahmedabad invites invitees from the fields of Economics, Finance and Accounting, Food and Agribusiness, Human Resource Management, Information Systems, Educational Innovation and Management, Marketing, Operations and Decision Sciences, Organizational Behavior, Public Systems and Strategy PhD students apply online. Thereafter, candidates will be offered admission on conditional basis through an interview process in March and April 2025.
