2024-09-23 18:18:54 : Huawei undoubtedly shocked the world in September when it launched its first mass-produced tri-fold smartphone. Soon after, the Huawei Mate XT flagship version also went on sale, but Huawei seemed unable to keep up with demand as some door-to-door customers were unable to purchase it. However, customers who pre-ordered the device did receive it as promised. So it’s a bit strange that Huawei has now reportedly announced that it is preparing to bring its tri-fold smartphone to the world, targeting customers willing to pay a premium.

According to GSMArena, Huawei will launch its first 3-fold device to more markets around the world. While Huawei has reportedly yet to confirm how it plans to implement it (as its products are banned in some markets), it has confirmed that its foldable phone will launch globally in the first quarter of 2025.

The first quarter of 2025 is not far away, and it remains to be seen how Huawei will meet demand, given that the Huawei Mate XT seems to be having trouble getting it to shelves in China.

Huawei Mate XT flagship design price

While foldable devices have always been priced higher than usual (even compared to Apple’s iPhone models), the China-only Mate XT Ultimate Design kicks the price up a few notches.

The Huawei Mate XT Ultimate Design is definitely one of the most expensive mass-produced smartphones in the world, priced at CNY 19,999 (approximately Rs. 2,36,700), and that’s just for the base model with 16GB RAM and 256GB storage. There is also a high-end model with more storage capacity, priced at a whopping CNY 23,999 (roughly Rs. 2,83,900), which is an eye-popping price tag for a smartphone.

Huawei Mate XT flagship design specifications

Huawei’s Mate XT Ultimate Design foldable phone can unfold into a tablet-sized 10.2-inch device or fold back into a regular smartphone with a 6.4-inch display when not needed. The tri-fold can also be turned into a regular fold, with a bi-fold 7.9-inch layout. While maintaining a thickness of 12.8 mm, it is as thick as the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 6 (12.1 mm). However, the phone weighs 298 grams, which is a bit heavy for a foldable phone, but lighter than most tablets.

Design aside, Huawei also has its own Kirin 9010 SoC powering this tri-fold phone. There are three rear cameras – a 50-megapixel main camera, a 12-megapixel periscope telephoto camera (5.5x optical zoom) and another 12-megapixel ultra-wide-angle camera. Selfies are handled by an 8-megapixel camera embedded in the first panel of the main folding display.

The foldable screen is equipped with a 5,600mAh battery and supports 66W wired charging and 50W wireless charging. Both charging methods require Huawei’s proprietary charger. The phone also offers 7.5W reverse wireless charging for charging accessories and is currently available in red and black finishes with a vegan leather back panel.
