Ever since the trailer of Rajkummar Rao and Shraddha Kapoor’s film Street 2 was released, people have been feeling the ‘vibe’ that the film is going to be a hit. But no one knew how big of a stir it would cause. “Stree” was released in 2018 without a big-name star cast or explosive publicity, but it surprised everyone by raking in around Rs 130 crore at the box office. At the time, it was the biggest hit of the era.

When Street 2 hit theaters, the most common estimate was that the film could potentially earn as much as Rs 300 crore in net revenue. But no one knew at the time that the public would be so crazy about Streets 2 that the film would gross twice as much as expected.

A strong “woman” even in week 6
It’s been more than a month since Dinesh Vijan’s ultimate horror universe film “Streets 2” was released, but the film is still doing well at the box office.

Five weeks after its release on Thursday, the film has grossed a net box office of Rs 589.9 crore and claimed the title of highest-grossing Hindi film. But in its sixth weekend, “Street 2” made new history. Driven by the National Film Day, the film collected Rs 520 crore at the box office on Friday and would have collected Rs 380 crore at the box office on Saturday based on normal ticket prices. This means that within 38 days, the film’s total net revenue reached 5.989 billion rupees.

Writing new history on Sunday
Saknielke estimates that the film’s box office collection on its 39th day of release was around Rs 48.50 million. With this, Shraddha and Rajkumar’s film crossed the Rs 600-crore mark at the box office. Currently, the film’s total net revenue is close to 604 crores.

Street 2 became the first Bollywood film where the Khan (played by Shah Rukh Aamir Salman) was not a superstar and opened a new club at the box office. The Khans have created the Rs 100-500 crore club in Bollywood. But even though Shah Rukh crossed Rs 500 crore twice in the same year (Jawan, Patan), he failed to reach Rs 600 crore.

So far, Bollywood has only had action films in the Rs 500-crore club, but a horror-comedy has now opened the door to the Rs 600-crore club. Stree 2 is still very profitable, so it’ll be interesting to see where its final collection goes.
