5. Three people beat up a taxi driver and a dispute broke out

A 32-year-old taxi driver was allegedly beaten up by three people during an argument over the Rs 5 fuel fee at a petrol station in Maharashtra’s Thane district. Police provided this information to a news organization on Monday. The incident took place on Saturday night when the driver, working for a taxi aggregation service, went to a petrol station in Bhiwandi to refuel his car after picking up a passenger, police said. A police officer from Nizampura police station said he paid Rs 300 for petrol of Rs 295 and demanded refund of the remaining Rs 5.

He got angry when the petrol pump operator demanded five rupees back. A dispute ensued between the petrol pump operator and the taxi driver. After a while, a struggle began between the two. During this time, the petrol pump operator also called two other colleagues who were present and together the trio allegedly assaulted the taxi driver.

Based on the victim’s complaint, the police on Sunday registered a case under sections 115(2) (intentionally causing hurt), 352 (intentional insult with intent to incite breach of peace) and 351(2) of the Indian Ministry of Justice. The official said that following the threat, an FIR was registered against the accused. The police have also started investigating the entire incident.
