Ramban, September 22: Vehicular traffic was suspended on the Srinagar-Jammu National Highway (NH-44) on Sunday night.

According to officials, this was to hoist large beams at the four-lane viaduct project in the Ramsu area of ​​Ramban County. Later, traffic was suspended on both sides of the highway from Qazigund (Kashmir) after 3 pm and from Udhampur after 5 pm.

However, traffic officials overseeing traffic control between Nashri and Banihal said traffic was flowing smoothly. No vehicle will be allowed to ply between Nashri and Banihal tunnels between 11 pm and Monday morning.

Official sources said that in order to ensure the safety of the general public/travelers/drivers, District Magistrate Ramban vide Order No. 2 was issued on the request of NHAI. ADMR/964-77 dated 21-09-2024 approved beam shifting and launching by NHAI on side NB and SB of Viaduct 02 A1 on National Highway Ramsoo, Srinagar, Jammu. Therefore, traffic between Nashri and Banihal (NAVYUG) tunnels will remain suspended from 11 pm (September 22) to 5 am (September 23) on September 22 and 23 (intermediate nights).

In view of the disruption to traffic on the national highways, roads from Kashmir Qazigund to Jammu after 3 pm and from Udhampur to Srinagar after 2 pm were blocked on Sunday.

People are advised to contact the traffic control units of Jammu, Srinagar, Ramban and Udhampur before starting their journey on NH-44 on the morning of September 23 to avoid any inconvenience, an advisory issued by the transport department said.

Meanwhile, the Jammu and Kashmir transport department on Monday issued a fresh advisory saying private cars and light medium vehicles will be allowed to ply on both sides of NH-44 provided the weather is clear and the NHAI issues a green signal.
