The flood crisis in Bihar has further deepened. Due to the floods, about 12.67 lakh people have been severely affected in 12 districts of the state. An official statement issued on Sunday said the flood situation in the state is serious.

However, water levels are receding in some parts of the state. The water level of the Ganga has started to recede in and around Patna, while in other parts, rising water levels in many rivers are affecting low-lying areas.

Many places were flooded

According to the news agency, the State Disaster Management Department (DMD) issued a statement saying, “12 districts along the Ganges face flood disaster and about 12.67 lakh people living in low-lying areas are affected by the rising water level.”

12 counties suffered from floods

A total of 361 panchayats have been affected in these districts. The district administration is using around 1,400 boats for rescue operations. The administration has set up eight rescue camps in 12 districts, where a large number of people are from low-lying areas. Other low-lying areas have been evacuated and people have been shifted to relief camps.

Floods spark outcry

The worst-affected districts in Bihar are Buxar, Bhojpur, Saran, Vaishali, Patna, Samastipur, Begusarai, Rajisalai, Munger, Khagaria, Bhagalpur and Katihar. In response, Chief Minister Nitish Kumar on Saturday inspected a relief camp set up for flood-affected people in Hajipur and directed officials to make every effort to provide assistance and relief.

Several trains were cancelled

Meanwhile, several trains were cancelled and diverted after flood waters hit the girders of a bridge in Bhagalpur district on Sunday. The East Central Railway said in a statement that flood waters touched the girders of bridge number 195 between Sultanganj and Ratanpur stations, leading to the cancellation of many trains.

The routes of other trains passing through Jamalpur-Bhagalpur division have been changed. Apart from this, the water level of many rivers in Jamalpur-Bhagalpur area has crossed the danger mark. The cancelled trains include Patna-Dumka Express, Saraigarh Deoghar Special, Jamalpur-Kiul MEMU Special and Bhagalpur-Danapur Intercity Express.

The trains that have been diverted include Ajmer-Bhagalpur Express, Vikramshila Express, Howrah-Gaya Express, Surat-Bhagalpur SF Express, Anand Vihar-Malda Town Express and Brahmaputra Mail.
