The Israeli Army reported on Sunday morning that Lebanon fired more than 100 rockets at Israel. Some of these rockets landed near the northern city of Haifa, causing damage in the area. The Israeli first response said, “These attacks have injured at least three people, damaged many buildings and set some vehicles on fire.” The attack came after an Israeli airstrike on Beirut that killed at least 37 people, including women, children and a senior Lebanese militia leader. This attack followed attacks against militias in which thousands of explosive devices were used.

The war between Israel and Hezbollah continues
Rockets and air strikes have been ongoing between Israel and Hezbollah since the outbreak of the Gaza war last year. Hezbollah has fired multiple rockets into Israel in support of the Palestinians and Hamas. The situation has become more serious in recent weeks, increasing the possibility of a wider war.

Al Jazeera West Bank office closed
Israeli forces stormed the West Bank offices of Qatar-based Al Jazeera on Sunday and ordered the office closed for 45 days. The raid was carried out during live television broadcasts as Israeli soldiers wearing masks and fully armed entered the office. Walid Omari, the West Bank bureau chief of Al Jazeera, read out the order issued by Israeli soldiers on live television and said: “The court has ordered the closure of Al Jazeera for 45 days.” Afterwards, the soldiers instructed staff to remove cameras and evacuate the office.

During the raid, Israeli soldiers began to confiscate documents and equipment, while the sound of tear gas and bullets rang out around the office.

There has long been tension between Israel and Al Jazeera
Relations between Israel and Al Jazeera, already strained, deteriorated further after its coverage of the Gaza war. Israel has repeatedly accused Al Jazeera of being a mouthpiece for terrorists, a claim the network denies. The Palestinian Journalists Association condemned the attack and called it yet another attack on media freedom. The union said the move was a threat to journalism and was aimed at suppressing the truth and preventing crimes committed during the Israeli occupation from being exposed.

An Al Jazeera employee said they had heard about the Israeli government’s threat to shut down Al Jazeera a long time ago, but did not expect it to happen so suddenly.

The situation has become more serious due to the heightened tensions between Israel and Lebanon. The possibility of conflict in the region has increased due to Lebanon’s rocket fire in support of Hezbollah and Israel’s retaliation. Meanwhile, the Israeli attack on Al Jazeera’s offices has been described as another attack on media freedom, raising questions about journalism and media rights.
