Atishi comes from a Punjab Prajput family and is a postgraduate student at Oxford University. Atishi’s father, Vijay Singh, was born on June 8, 1981 and was a professor at Delhi University. After completing her schooling at Springdale School in New Delhi, Atishi graduated from St. Stephen’s College before moving on to Oxford University for postgraduate studies on a Chevening Scholarship. Atishi also obtained a second Master’s degree in Educational Studies at Oxford University as a Rhodes Scholar.

Was a social activist

Atishi turned to social work. After graduating from Oxford, she started working as a social activist and lived in a small village in Madhya Pradesh for seven years. During this period, he worked on organic farming and progressive education system. Atishi is also an active social activist in Varanasi. She works with many NGOs and while being a social activist, she was also involved in Anna Hazare’s anti-corruption movement and has been associated with the Aam Aadmi Party since its inception.

Performing important duties in AAP

Atishi has played many important roles in the Aam Aadmi Party. She was also a member of the manifesto drafting committee that drafted the first manifesto of the Aam Aadmi Party when it made its electoral debut in 2013 and played an important role in the policy formulation of the party in its early years. Even as a spokesperson for the Aam Aadmi Party, Atishi has strongly defended the party on various platforms. Not only is she considered one of Kejriwal’s most trusted leaders, but she is also considered close to Manish Sisodia. From July 2015 to April 2018, Atishi worked as an advisor to Manish Sisodia in the Education Department. Not only did she participate in the Khandwa Water Satyagraha in 2015, but she also fought the law against it. In the 2020 Goa elections, the Aam Aadmi Party also gave him the responsibility of in-charge of the state, where the party successfully won two seats.

First time MLA in 2020

Although Atishi has entered electoral politics, she was elected as an MLA for the first time in 2020. Atishi entered the Parliament by winning the Kalkaji Parliamentary seat in the 2020 Delhi elections. In 2023, Atishi got a seat in the Kejriwal cabinet for the first time and was in charge of the education department where she had worked as an advisor along with Manish Sisodia. About a month ago, while in jail, Kejriwal had also proposed to the local government to name a place after Atishi to hoist the national flag on Independence Day. However, the LG has given this responsibility to Kailash Gehlot.

Most senior minister in Kejriwal’s cabinet

Atish is the most senior minister in Kejriwal’s cabinet. CM Kejriwal handed over the huge portfolio of education, public works, revenue, water, finance and planning to Atishi, who was sworn in as a minister in the Delhi government on March 9, 2023. About 18 months after his first stint as a minister, Atish will now become the Chief Minister of Delhi.
