Air Marshal Amar Preet Singh has been appointed as the new Chief of the Indian Air Force. He will take charge on September 30 and succeeds Air Chief Marshal Vivek Ram Chaudhary (PVSM, AVSM, VM, ADC), who retires on the same day. Air Marshal Singh, an alumnus of the National Defense College, the National Defense Staff College and the National Defense College, enlisted in the Indian Air Force on December 21, 1984. He is a qualified flying instructor.
He has also served as an experimental test pilot in the Indian Air Force. Air Marshal AP Singh has over 5,000 hours of flying experience in various types of fixed-wing and rotary-wing aircraft. He took over as the Vice Chief of the Air Force in February last year. During his career so far, Air Marshal Singh has commanded an operational fighter squadron and a forward air base.
As a test pilot, he led the MiG-29 upgrade project management team in Moscow. He was appointed Project Director (Flight Test) of the State Flight Test Center, responsible for supervising the flight testing of the light fighter “Glorious”. He served as the Air Defense Commander of the Southwestern Air Force Command and the Senior Air Force Staff Officer of the Eastern Air Force Command.
Prior to his current posting, he served as Air Commander, Central Air Command. Air Marshal Amar Preet Singh has been awarded the Param Vishsht Seva and Aati Vishsht Seva. Air Marshal Amar Preet Singh, the new Chief of the Indian Air Force, recently flew the domestically-produced fighter jet Tejas at the age of 59. After joining the Indian Air Force, he received training at the Air Force Academy, Dundigarh, Telangana, and the National Defense Academy, Kadavathla. He is also an alumnus of the Defence Services Staff College, Wellington, Tamil Nadu.
