The home voting process for the parliamentary elections in all six constituencies of Kathua district began today with postal ballots to ensure accessibility.

The move, a first for the Jammu and Kashmir state assembly elections, is specifically targeted at voters aged 85 years and above and individuals with baseline disabilities, as per the Election Commission of India (ECI) rules.

The voting process in the country will continue till September 21, 2024. To ensure smooth conduct, dedicated staff including polling officers, micro observers and reserve teams have been deployed in various clusters in the constituency.

The district administration has identified a sizeable number of eligible voters in the country, including those categorised as AVSC (Elderly Absent Voters) and AVPD (Absent Voters with Disabilities).

Dr. Rakesh Minhas, District Election Officer, stressed the government’s commitment to ensuring inclusivity and transparency, noting: “Our goal is 100% voter participation to ensure that every eligible voter can exercise their rights.”

The entire process is being conducted under the supervision of election observers and senior officials appointed by the Election Commission, with micro-observers ensuring transparency and accountability. The government is focused on maintaining stringent security measures throughout the process and safeguarding the integrity of the electoral process.

Earlier today, special voting teams visited the homes of eligible voters to enable them to cast their votes from the comfort of their homes while maintaining due process and confidentiality.
