There are many things in the world that people are ashamed of. As a result, they often miss out on opportunities. But a girl named Richa Kar did something similar and created a business empire worth Rs 1,300 crore, which was acquired by Ambani’s company a few years ago. The business was the lingerie business. Most women feel shy when buying lingerie, and this difficulty increases further if the shop owner is a man.

Richa Kar understood this problem of women and girls and started a big business. As a girl, she herself felt how difficult it was to buy lingerie from a store. He then created an online platform and named the company Zivame. It was not easy for Richa to start this business.

My family objected…and my friends laughed at me.
To do this, Richa had to face multiple oppositions from her family. When she told her family and friends about this, her family was against it and refused to do it. At the same time, her friends also made fun of the underwear business. But Richa still did not give up and decided to do this business at all costs, and she even quit her good job for this.

The mother said: How can I tell my daughter what she has done?
Her mother was also against the business, saying how could I tell my friends that my daughter is in the underwear business. But when Richa disagreed, her mother also supported them. Richa even quit her good job for this business.

Richa Kar was born in 1980 in Jamshedpur to a middle-class family. Richa had graduated from BITS Pilani. After graduation, she started working in a corporate in Bangalore. It was during this time that she realised the problem and started the lingerie business.

Loan for business start-up
Richa had no money, so she laid the foundation of the business with the help of her friends and family. I also invested all my savings in this business. Then a platform was created through which women could buy lingerie without any shame while sitting at home. With the help of Rs 35 lakh, he took the business further. She started an lingerie company called Zivame in 2011.

Created a business worth Rs. 1300 crore
In the beginning, Richa’s business was not doing well, but with time, the business gained momentum. This business of Zivame was run by Reliance and the company was acquired by Reliance Retail in 2020. Today, the platform has more than 5,000 lingerie styles, more than 50 brands, and more than 100 sizes of lingerie. Not only that, the platform also provides door-to-door fitting and fitting consultant services. Due to his outstanding work, Richa’s name was included in the Fortune India edition’s “40 Under 40” list in 2014.
