Mendal, September 21: Indian Home Minister Amit Shah on Saturday said the Jammu and Kashmir border is currently peaceful as Pakistan is daring to open fire out of fear of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Shah held an election rally in the border area of Poonch district in the Union Territory in support of BJP candidate Murtaza Khan.

He praised the BJP-led central government for eliminating terrorism by replacing guns and stones in the hands of the youth with laptops and said his government would not allow guns to echo in the hilly areas of Jammu region.

“We will build more bunkers at the border to keep people safe. I want to remind you of the cross-border shooting in the 1990s… Is there still cross-border shooting today?

“This is because the previous rulers were afraid of Pakistan, but now, Pakistan is afraid of Modi. They dare not shoot, but if they shoot, they will be shot back accordingly,” Shah said.

The BJP leader is on a three-day tour and has planned four more campaign rallies at Surankot in Poonch district, Thanamandi and Rajouri in Rajouri district and Aknoor in Jammu district.

In August 2019, Jammu and Kashmir held its first assembly election after the abrogation of Article 370 and bifurcation of the state into two union territories – Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh.

The first phase of voting was held on September 18, the second phase will be held on September 25, and the third and final phase will be held on October 1. The election results will be announced on October 8.
