In Ballia, Uttar Pradesh, the District Inspector of Schools (DIOS) has been suspended after the matter came to light that he had illegally paid salaries to 27 teachers and staff. The suspension order was issued by the state government based on a report by the education department.

According to the agency, the suspended police officer Ramesh Singh is currently posted as the Inspector of Schools in Mau district. Ballia DIOS Devendra Kumar Gupta said that the action taken against Ramesh Singh was taken based on the report of Azamgarh Joint Director of Education Yogendra Kumar Singh on October 17, 2023.

Reports said Ramesh Singh approved fake appointments in four schools in Ballia, leading to illegal payment of salaries of 27 teachers and staff. When the irregularities came to light, the state government ordered an inquiry.

The report also stated that Ramesh Singh abused his power and approved false appointments, causing huge economic losses to the government finances. In the process, they approved the appointments of these teachers and employees without following any valid documents or correct procedures.

Ramesh Singh was transferred from Ballia to Mau district in June this year. However, the investigation was initiated due to irregularities committed during his tenure in Ballia. After an investigation by the Joint Director of Education, Azamgarh, Ramesh Singh was disciplined and suspended.

Actions taken by the department following investigation

The department has previously investigated and suspended cases of this nature. The case also raises questions about the department’s operations and transparency.

The education department is currently investigating the matter. More officials or employees may be investigated in the future. The state government has taken this incident seriously.

After the suspension of Ramesh Singh, new district school inspectors will now be deployed in Mau and Ballia districts and other employees and officials of the education department will be kept under strict surveillance so that such cases of illegal payment of wages do not occur and can be done as soon as possible.
