A heartbreaking incident took place in the Guartoli police station area. A devotee who had come to perform the Mangala Aarti rituals while reversing his car ran over a sadhu couple sleeping on the roadside outside the Anandeshwar temple in Parath on Saturday morning. Devotees were outraged after the accident. On receiving a report, the police rushed to the spot and launched an investigation and sent the body for postmortem. Police officials assured that the CCTV cameras installed in the vicinity are being scanned and the accused will be arrested soon.

Police said that on Saturday morning, a devotee came to Baba Anandeshwar temple to participate in the Mangala Aarti event. While returning from here in the early morning, he knocked down 60-year-old Sitaram and his wife (a resident of Sadhu Sajeti) who were sleeping on the roadside and fled the scene. When the bodies of the two were found lying on the roadside outside the temple, there was a commotion. During this period, passers-by saw them and called the police. Soon, hundreds of people gathered there. They beat up the police and nearby people and were suspected of murder.

In response, the police have started scanning CCTV footage installed nearby. Some devotees who reached the temple said that if the car hit them, the two should be taken to the hospital so that their lives could be saved. Different police teams have started questioning other sadhus who were sitting nearby. People at the scene told reporters that the two were a couple and used to make a living by begging.

In this case, Gwaltoli police and forensic team are collecting evidence of the incident. Besides, investigations are also being conducted in various places. In this regard, DCP Central Dinesh Tripathi said that a devotee who came to participate in Mangala Aarti was reversing his car when both of them were hit by the car and crushed. The video footage is being examined and the accused will be arrested soon.
