Akash Deep, the new fast bowler in the Indian team, has impressed with his enthusiastic bowling. It is believed that the shadow of Mohammed Shami can be seen in this up-and-coming bowler. The bowling action and delivery of both are almost the same.

India’s bowlers put in a stellar performance in the first innings of the Chennai Test against Bangladesh, scoring 376. While Jasprit Bumrah bowled Shadman Islam (2) cleanly in the first over of the match, Akash Deep’s magic began thereafter.

Akash Deep, 27, bowled two consecutive overs in Bangladesh’s ninth innings, hitting Zakir Hasan (3) and Mominul Haque (2). Zakir’s middle stump was uprooted by Akash Deep. Akash Deep had a chance to take a hat-trick but experienced Mushfiqur Rahim stopped him. Bangladesh were restricted to 149 in the first innings of the Chennai Test. Akash Deep’s bowling analysis during this period was 5-0-19-2.

This was only Akashdeep’s second Test match. The right-arm fast bowler made his Test debut this year against England in Ranchi. Akash Deep took 3 wickets in that Test match in Ranchi.

Selected for his outstanding performance in domestic cricket

Akash Deep was part of the India-A team that played in the first round of the Duleep Trophy 2024. Akash performed well in the match against India-B. In that match held at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru, Akash Deep took 4 wickets and scored 60 runs in the first innings. Akash Deep took 5 wickets and scored 56 runs in the second innings. This brought his total haul to 9 wickets in the match. It was based on this brilliant performance that Akash Deep was included in the squad for the Bangladesh series.

Akash Deep and Mohammed Shami’s bowling action is unique. The seam position of the ball is the same. Both are from Bangladesh but neither is Bengali. Even on social media, fans have posted the similarities between the two.

Mohammed Shami was born in Uttar Pradesh and shone in Bengal

Mohammed Shami fought hard in domestic cricket for Bangladesh and made his debut for the Indian team. He made his debut for the Bangladesh team at the domestic Grade I, Grade A and T20 levels between 2010 and 2011. Shami is a resident of Sahaspur in Amroha, Uttar Pradesh. Shami tried to play for his hometown UP team and even played two trials.

But he did not get a chance to play for his hometown. Shami said in an interview that he was disappointed after seeing the selection process of UP, after which he came to Kolkata at the age of 14-15. During this time he also visited Tripura. But even here he did not play. After about three years, he returned to Kolkata again. Shami played a lot of club cricket in Kolkata. Initially, he played for Dalhousie Sports Club.

Once his bowling was seen by Debabrata Das, former assistant secretary of the Bengal Cricket Association, who was impressed by Shami’s bowling and invited him to join his club, the Town Club. At that time, Shami had no place to stay in Kolkata, and Shami stayed with him thereafter.

…The sky that never gives up

Akash Deep was originally from Sasaram in Bihar and moved to Durgapur in West Bengal in 2010. He later lived with his uncle. A few years later, Akash lost his father and elder brother within two months of each other. Due to this family tragedy, he had to stay away from football for three years.

However, Akash did not give up. He returned to Durgapur again. From here he went to Kolkata. After sweating on the field, he started playing for United Club in CAB (Cricket Association of Bengal) First Division League. He also met Mohammed Shami in Kolkata. After working on his fitness, he started bowling for a long time.

Finally got a chance to join the Indian team

Akashdeep got the chance to make his debut for the Indian team in February 2024. Rahul Dravid handed the cap to him in the Ranchi Test match against England.
