Apple on Thursday released the iOS 18.1 Public Beta 1 update for iPhones. The update is said to be a notable introduction as it brings features powered by Apple Intelligence, the company’s artificial intelligence (AI) suite, to iPhones. Features such as writing tools, object removal cleanup tools, and web page summarization will now be available on supported iPhone models. In addition to iOS 18.1 Public Beta 1, Apple also released updates for its other devices such as iPad and Mac.

According to Apple, the iOS 18.1 Public Beta 1 update adds new features powered by Apple Intelligence. It introduces the Writing Tool, an AI-powered feature with the option to proofread documents using spelling and grammar checking. Users can also ask it to rewrite text in three different tones: concise, friendly, and professional. It can also summarize text, create lists and tables, or highlight key points in the text.

Meanwhile, the cleanup tool leverages Apple’s AI models to remove unwanted objects, backgrounds, or text from images. While the smarter Siri that Apple previewed at the 2024 Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) in June is still not available, the update introduces a new user interface (UI) that glows along the edges of the screen when talking to the voice assistant.

In Safari, iPhone users running iOS 18.1 Public Beta 1 can now access web page summaries when Reader View is enabled.

While call recording is not part of Apple Intelligence, it also appears on the iPhone and can be triggered by tapping a new icon that appears in the upper left corner of the screen. Once call recording begins, all recipients will receive a voice message notification. The recording and its transcription are saved in the Notes app.

In addition to the iOS 18.1 Public Beta 1 update, Apple also released iPadOS 18.1 and macOS Sequoia 15.1 update with Apple Intelligence.
