OpenAI released its o1 series of artificial intelligence (AI) models with advanced reasoning capabilities last week. These AI models are said to be the rumored “Strawberry” models that the company has reportedly been developing for the past few months. The company claims that these large language models (LLMs), consisting of o1 and o1-mini, are capable of multi-step reasoning and “think like a human.” Now, these models are reportedly being expanded to the AI company’s enterprise and education customers.

OpenAI o1 AI model is coming to enterprise and education users

According to VentureBeat, the AI company is currently expanding its latest AI model to ChatGPT Enterprise and ChatGPT Edu users. This means that users will soon see the option to switch to the o1 model when running prompts. It is worth noting that the AI model was launched for Plus and Teams users on the day of LLM’s launch.

Although paid users of ChatGPT have access to the latest AI models, OpenAI has made it clear that this is still in a “preview” phase, so rate limits will apply. The larger o1 model has a rate limit of 50 queries per week. At launch, the rate limit for o1-mini was also set to the same value, but the company later increased it to 50 queries per day.

The new o1 series models are designed to solve and run complex reasoning tasks, multi-step math problems, and areas that require deeper expertise. The AI company claims that the AI model will spend several minutes thinking about the prompt before generating a response. OpenAI emphasizes that this mimics a human-like thought process and allows the AI to think about different possibilities and eliminate any errors.

Derya Unutmaz, a professor at the Jackson Laboratory, a nonprofit biomedical research organization, claimed in a post on X (formerly Twitter) that the o1 AI model was able to “write a major cancer treatment program based on a very specific immunological approach,” while he himself would need “days or even longer” to prepare the program.

It is worth noting that OpenAI said that ChatGPT free users will get access to the o1-mini AI model in the coming weeks. It is expected that the usage limit will be lower than that of paid users.
