The weather in the capital city of Delhi has turned pleasant due to continuous rainfall for a few days. With this, the people of Delhi have started to feel the cold. Yesterday (Thursday), September 19, 2024, Delhi recorded a minimum temperature of 17.8 degrees, breaking a 15-year record. According to the meteorological department, the drop in temperature reflects a wider climate pattern. Judging from the temperature in Delhi on Thursday, it can be said that the city may soon start a cold period.

Breaking the 15-year record
Historically, Delhi has seen such sudden changes in temperature in September. The lowest temperature ever recorded in Palam in September was 13.6 degrees Celsius on September 23, 1972. Similarly, the lowest temperature in September in Safdarjung had dropped to 16.1 degrees Celsius on September 24, 1930.

Since 2009, the lowest temperature recorded in September in Safdarjung was 21.1 degrees Celsius. Soon after, on September 29, 2023, the lowest temperature was recorded at 21.4 degrees Celsius. During the same period, the lowest temperature recorded in September in Palam was 20.8°C on September 28, 2010. Meanwhile, 15 years later, on September 19, 2024, the temperature was recorded at 17.8 degrees Celsius.

The latest weather update has come as many parts of the country, including Delhi, will see more rains due to the delay in the retreat of the monsoon.

What’s the weather like in Delhi this week?
According to the Meteorological Department (IMD), the rains are likely to stop in Delhi from September 20. However, the movement of clouds will continue during this period. Meanwhile, Delhi is likely to enter the monsoon season again from September 25. According to the IMD, the maximum temperature in Delhi is likely to remain between 31 and 35 degrees Celsius this week, while the minimum temperature is likely to be around 21 to 25 degrees Celsius.

Normally, the monsoon sets out from Delhi on September 25 every year, but this time there may be a delay of 10 to 15 days. Meanwhile, another system is about to emerge in the Bay of Bengal and then move inland, so Delhi may receive rain again next week around September 25-26. Therefore, the monsoon break may last longer than expected.
