Rajouri, September 19: Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) chief and former chief minister Mehbooba Mufti on Thursday said that it would be impossible to form a secular government in Jammu and Kashmir without the PDP.

She called on people to vote for the PDP to resist the divisive policies of the BJP.

Addressing a public rally during the Rajouri Assembly election campaign, Mufti said the BJP was spreading politics of hate and such signals were visible everywhere.

“Lynching is another clear example of this pattern of hatred,” she said.

Mufti said that considering that PDP is a party that emerged as an alternative to the existing political parties, it is the only party founded by late Mufti Muhammad Sayeed to give voice to the people and end their plight.

“It is because of the existence of the PDP that Omar Abdullah had to beg for votes before the people. Otherwise, there would be no alternative in the NC,” she said.

The former chief minister said that without the PDP, it would not be possible to form a secular government in Jammu and Kashmir.

Mufti called on the people in all five constituencies of the region to vote for PDP candidates and said the BJP was dividing people in the name of religion and now it was dividing the minority communities in the name of Gujaratis and Paharis.

“People should vote and resist this divisiveness,” she said.

Expressing concern over the remarks of BJP leaders asking Paharis to vote for the party and give up ST status given to Paharis, Mufti said the government’s duty is to meet the demands of the people and not ask for something in return.
