With the assembly elections around the corner, District Returning Officer (DEO) Poonch Vikas Kundal visited Surankote and Mendhar to oversee the preparations for the upcoming assembly elections. The DEO reviewed the arrangements related to the elections and MCC execution.
Chairing the meeting in Mendhar and Surankot, the Director of the Election Assessment Office reviewed key aspects of the election preparations. He also conducted a series of surprise inspections in Poonch district to ensure the fairness of the elections, focusing on the effectiveness of static surveillance teams at major checkpoints and nakkas, which are crucial in enforcing the Code of Conduct and preventing illegal activities that could influence voters.
Besides, DEO Kundal met the Systematic Voter Education and Electoral Participation (SVEEP) team and urged them to expedite awareness campaign across the district. This initiative is crucial to maximize voter participation ahead of the assembly elections on September 25.
The DEO also engaged with the Returning Officers of Surankote and Mendhar and took a peek at their preparedness to ensure that all necessary arrangements were made for a smooth conduct of the election process.
Furthermore, he directed the Returning Officer to complete all preparations and reviewed the ongoing home voting. He stressed on inclusivity and emphasised the need to achieve 100 per cent voter turnout for voters aged 85 years and above as well as persons with disabilities within the stipulated time.
During these visits, DEO Kundal took stock of the preparedness of the surveillance teams and stressed on the need for stringent security measures while minimizing inconvenience to commuters. He, in conjunction with Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Poonch, stressed on the importance of protecting voters’ rights and maintaining a transparent electoral environment.
