Senior Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader and former Union minister Som Prakash has criticised party MP and Bollywood star Kangana Ranaut’s remarks against fundamentalist Sikh preacher Jarnail Singh Bhindranwale.

The former Hoshiarpur MP’s strong statement comes a day after Kangana, in a TV interview, called Bhindranwale “not a saint but a terrorist”. In his X post, Somprakash called Bhindranwale a “saint”.

Som Prakash wrote on X: “Kangana Ranaut should refrain from making unnecessary comments on Sant Jarnail Singh and the Sikh community. Such comments hurt the sentiments of the Sikh community. They should maintain discipline. “No one should be allowed to disturb the peace in Punjab.”

Let us tell you that Kangana’s film Emergency was also mired in controversy and the film was scheduled to hit the screens on September 6 but was postponed due to censor certification. Sikh organisations accused Kangana of tarnishing the image of the entire Sikh community in the film’s trailer.

Case registered against Kangana in Chandigarh

Meanwhile, a Chandigarh court has issued notices to Kangana Ranaut and others based on a complaint filed against them for tarnishing the image of Sikhs in the film Emergency. The accused have been asked to file their reply by December 5. Bassi, in his petition, alleged that Ranaut and other accused had tried to “defame the image of Sikhs” in the film Emergency and had specifically “targeted” former Aakkar Takht Jasdar by portraying him as a “terrorist”.

“The accused have portrayed a poor concept of Sikhs and levelled false and untrue allegations against the Jasedar of the Sikh community without studying the correct facts and historical data,” Bassi said in the petition.
