A freight train derailed in Mathura, Uttar Pradesh on Wednesday. It is understood that the freight train was travelling from Jhansi to Sundergarh. The accident took place near Vrindavan. Agra Railways DRM Tej Pratap Aggarwal said that 25 coaches derailed in the accident. The routes of many trains were affected. Let me tell you that this is the seventh derailment of a freight train in a week.

It is understood that the power supply pillar of the line was also broken in this railway accident. It is understood that it will take at least 10-12 hours to repair the track. After receiving the accident information, railway officials immediately rushed to the scene. Fortunately, there is no news of casualties in this accident.

Past 3 years 131

According to information provided by the Ministry of Railways through RTI, a total of 131 train accidents occurred in the country from July 7, 2021 to June 17, 2024, including 92 train derailments. Of these, 64 were passenger trains and 28 were freight trains. In the past three years, two passenger trains and one freight train have derailed every month.

Kavach systems are installed on only 2% of railway lines

Now, people are beginning to question whether the railway tickets with the words “Happy Journey” are really intended to make the public have a happy journey? Because so far, only 2% of railway lines have installed armored systems, which are said to prevent train collisions. This means that more than 97% of the Indian railway network has not yet installed anti-collision systems. In this case, the question is, how many years will people have to wait for railway armor?

150,000 vacancies in railways

Another reality for the railways is that according to RTI data, there are about 1.5 lakh vacancies in the railways for positions responsible for safety. According to RTI, positions such as track maintainers, inspectors, electrical signal maintainers and signal supervisors are all vacant in the railways. If trains running on the tracks keep derailing due to inadequate safety preparations, then who will ensure the safety of the people?
