Another case of Mpox in India, a person who returned from Dubai, Kerala tests positive

A 38-year-old man in Malappuram, Kerala has been diagnosed with the monkeypox virus. The state health department said the man developed symptoms after returning from Dubai. On learning of this, the man was admitted to a private hospital and later to a designated hospital. His samples were sent for testing, and the results confirmed the virus.

State Health Minister Veena George on Tuesday informed that the person decided to stay away from his family after seeing symptoms. “Their samples have been sent for testing and the reports are awaited,” he said.

This person came to Kerala from Dubai

According to district health officials, the man had recently come to Kerala from Dubai and was admitted to the hospital after falling ill. He was later admitted to Manjeri Medical College. His sample was sent to Kozhikode Medical College for testing as he suspected monkeypox.

Delhi also registers monkeypox case

Last week, a new case of monkeypox was reported in the national capital of Delhi. A 26-year-old man from Hisar in Haryana was found to be infected with the virus and was admitted to the Delhi government’s LNJP hospital.

Cases not related to WHO warning

India’s federal health ministry called it an isolated case and said India has registered 30 cases since July 2022. The ministry also clarified that the case is not related to the existing public health emergency declared by the World Health Organization (WHO) related to monkeypox clade 1.
