E-commerce giant Amazon on Wednesday announced that Samir Kumar will lead the company as its country manager for India following the resignation of Manish Tiwary.

According to the latest updates from the company’s leadership, Kumar is working closely with Manish Tiwary on the transition and will assume operational responsibility for the India region from October 1.

The latest news states: “Samir Kumar, who has worked at Amazon for 25 years, will head Amazon India’s consumer business as the current Amazon India country manager Manish Tiwary has decided to look for opportunities outside Amazon.”
Amit Agarwal, Amazon’s senior vice president of emerging markets, announced in an internal email that Kumar will lead the company as country manager for India, in addition to his current responsibilities as head of consumer business in the Middle East, South Africa and Turkey.
Kumar joined Amazon in 1999 and was part of the original team that conceived and launched Amazon. In in 2013.

With this change, the current Amazon. In leadership team, including Saurabh Srivastava (categories), Harsh Goyal (daily essentials), Amit Nanda (marketplace), and Aastha Jain (growth initiatives), will report to Kumar.
Kishore Thota (Shopping Experience, Emerging Markets) will report directly to Agarwal.
“India remains an important priority for Amazon, and I’m very excited about the opportunities ahead as we continue to transform lives and livelihoods. We have a strong local leadership team, and combined with Samir’s experience in emerging markets, I’m even more optimistic about our future plans to serve customers and grow our business in India,” Agarwal said.

Agarwal also praised Tiwary’s leadership, “in making Amazon. In the de facto starting point for Indians to buy and sell anything online,” and wished him all the best for the future. (PTI)
