India head coach Gautam Gambhir on Wednesday dismissed concerns that Indian batsmen have struggled against quality spinners in recent times, saying the Indian line-up has enough firepower to contend with the world’s top players.
Talking to the media on the eve of the two-Test series against Bangladesh, Gambhir also said that the bowling quartet of fast bowlers Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Shami, R Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja has successfully counteracted India’s obsession with batting.
“We have a very strong batting unit and can play against any spin team,” Gambhir said when asked about the team’s struggles in the white-ball series against Sri Lanka last month, especially the ODI match which India lost.
“There is a big difference between one-day international cricket and Test matches,” he said.
He also heaped praise on the team’s bowlers.
“India used to be a batting-obsessed nation. But Bumrah, Shami, Ashwin and Jadeja have turned it into a bowling game,” he pointed out. (PTI)
