Rajouri, Sept 17: An Army soldier was killed and three others injured when the bulletproof vehicle in which he was travelling fell into a roadside ravine.

The accident took place in Mirzamore town in Manjakot area of ​​Rajouri district on Tuesday evening.

Officials said a convoy of army vehicles was travelling from Bimbelgali to Manjakot when one of the light BP vehicles fell into a ravine at Mirzamore.

They said four soldiers were injured in the accident and local residents rushed to the scene and launched rescue operations, in which police and army personnel also participated. The injured soldiers were evacuated from the accident site and sent to a nearby medical facility and later referred to the Army Medical Facility in Rajouri.

They said one injured service member succumbed to his injuries and two of them have been shifted to a higher level Army medical facility, where both are described in critical condition.

In a condolence message from “X”, the White Knights Corps said: “The Commander-in-Chief of the White Knights Corps and officers at all levels express their deepest condolences to the family of Lance Naik Baljit Singh, who was killed in a tragic road accident near Manjakot in Rajouri while on a counter-insurgency mission.”
