Atishi was first elected as an MLA in the 2020 assembly elections and became a minister in the Kejriwal government for the first time in 2023. Now, just a year later, in 2024, she will become the chief minister. Earlier, she had contested the East Lok Sabha seat in 2019 but lost to BJP candidate Gautam Gambhir by 4.77 lakh votes and finished third.
Who is Atisi?
Atishi first became the MLA from Kalkaji parliamentary constituency in 2020. He defeated BJP candidate Dharamveer Singh by 11,000 votes 393. Atishi was born on June 8, 1981 in Delhi. His father, Vijay Singh, is a professor at Delhi University. Atishi was educated at Springdale School, New Delhi. He studied history at St. Stephen’s College and did his Masters at Oxford University on a Chevening Scholarship. A few years later, he did his second Masters from Oxford University as a Rhodes Scholar in Educational Studies.
She spent seven years in a small village in Madhya Pradesh, where she was involved in organic farming and progressive education system. She worked with several non-profit organizations there, where she first met some AAP members and joined the party when it was founded.
