Neeraj Chopra Diamond League Finals: Indian star javelin thrower Neeraj Chopra showed his amazing spirit late on Saturday (September 14) night. He made it to the Diamond League final with an injured hand and finished second. Neeraj missed out on winning the Diamond Trophy. Neeraj himself revealed the news of his broken hand through a social media post.

In the final, Neeraj threw the javelin for the third time and the distance was 87.86, which was his best score of the competition. Grenada’s Anderson Peters successfully won the Diamond League championship. Peters threw 87.87 meters in his first attempt. This meant that Neeraj was only 1 cm behind.

Dream of second Diamond League title shattered

Neeraj won the 2022 Diamond League title. Now his dream of winning the title for the second time has been shattered. Neeraj’s competition was held at the Allianz Memorial Van Damme in Brussels (Belgium). Let us tell you that Neeraj Chopra threw 86.82 meters in the javelin in his first attempt. His second attempt was 83.49 meters.

Then his third attempt was 87.86 meters. The Indian athlete’s fourth attempt was 82.04 meters. In the fifth attempt, Neeraj threw 83.30 meters. Neeraj tried his best in the last attempt, but he could only throw 86.46 meters.

Neeraj wrote: “As the 2024 season draws to a close, I reflect on everything I’ve learned this year, including progress, failures, mentality and more. I was injured in training on Monday (September 9) and an X-ray showed that I had fractured the fourth metacarpal bone in my left hand. It was another painful challenge, but with the help of my team (doctors), I was able to participate in Brussels (Diamond League Finals).
