Senior Jammu Congress leader Bharat Singh Solanki said the party will release its manifesto for the Jammu and Kashmir assembly elections in two days. He called the BJP’s election promises “empty”. Apart from this, he expressed his confidence that the Congress-National Conference alliance will come to power in Jammu and Kashmir.

According to the agency, the Congress leaders targeted the BJP saying that the BJP had failed to eliminate terrorism, ensure return and rehabilitation of Kashmiri Pandits and create employment opportunities for local youth. The Congress, which is in charge of Jammu and Kashmir, said that after the government is formed, the alliance partners will prepare a Common Minimum Programme (CMP) to ensure peace, prosperity and development in the region.

Bharat Singh Solanki said that the Congress manifesto is ready and will be released two days before the first phase of elections. Our manifesto will not be based on ‘jumlas’ and we will ensure its implementation. Let us tell you that the voting in Jammu and Kashmir will be held in three phases – September 18, September 25 and October 1, while the counting of votes will be done on October 8.

We are in alliance with the National Congress but we work as per the ideology of our party. When we form the government, which is certain, we will prepare the CMP and ensure implementation of all the promises contained in our manifesto, Solanki said. He said the whole country and even the world is watching the strategically important assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir.

The NCP and the Congress have formed a pre-poll alliance where the Farooq Abdullah-led party will contest 51 seats and the Congress 32. The CPI(M) and the Jammu and Kashmir National Panthers Party (JKNPP) have been allotted one seat each.

On giving more seats to the National Congress, Solanki said that for the party, the welfare of the people is more important than anything else. He said that we are more concerned about restoring statehood, restoring normalcy, maintaining communal harmony and strengthening the ties between the two regions.
