‘I will not sit as chief minister until public verdict is given’: 10 takeaways from Kejriwal’s speech

Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, who was released from Tihar jail after obtaining bail from the Supreme Court, reached the party headquarters on Sunday and addressed the workers. In a major announcement, he said he would resign in two days and called for early elections in Delhi. He said he would not take up the post of chief minister until people gave him a “certificate of honesty”.

CM Kejriwal said that a meeting of the legislative party will be held in the next two days and a new chief minister will be chosen. The next chief minister will also be someone from the Aam Aadmi Party. Making a request to the Election Commission, he said there are elections in February and I request that these elections should be held in November along with Maharashtra.

Key points of Kejriwal’s speech

1- I read a book “Jail Diary of Bhagat Singh”. Bhagat Singh wrote many articles during his time in jail and all of them are in this book. He wrote many letters to his colleagues and all the letters were forwarded by the British. I wrote a letter to LG from jail requesting permission for Atishi to hoist the national flag on Independence Day. That letter was not delivered and I was told that if you write a second time, you will not be allowed to meet your family. Even the British did not expect that after 95 years of India’s independence, a ruler more cruel and tyrannical than the British would come to this country… When Sandeep Pathak came to meet me and talk about politics, he was blacklisted… Bhagat Singh. Those who were hanged at that time did not even dream that there would be such an India, that after 95 years, a cruel and tyrannical government would come to this country and leave even the British behind.

6- Arvind Kejriwal said that there will be elections in Delhi in February next year. My demand is that Delhi holds elections immediately. These elections should be held in November along with Maharashtra.

7- The CM said, “I am not resigning because I want to save the democracy of the country.” If I resign… they will put everyone in jail one by one because they filed cases against Siddaramaiah, Mamata Diddy, Pinarayi Vijayan, I want to request all non-BJP chief ministers of the country, now, if the Prime Minister has put you in jail through false cases, don’t resign. Do not resign under any circumstances and run the government from jail. It is not that we are greedy for status because our constitution is important to us and it is important to save democracy. You will put the government that was elected with such a majority in jail and ask it to resign.

8- I was working as an Income Tax Commissioner. From 2000 to 2010, I quit my job and worked in the slums of Delhi. I lived in the slums of Nandnagari and Sunder Nagari for a while. If you want to make money, you can’t do less than the job of Income Tax Commissioner. I wanted to do something for the country. In this day and age, no one leaves the post of a peon, I left the post of CM before. I am not greedy for status, I just want to do something for the country.
