BJP MLA arrested in Karnataka, accused of threatening contractor and making casteist remarks

Karnataka BJP MLA Munirathna was arrested on Saturday for threatening to kill a contractor in Kolar and using casteist slurs. Munirathna is an MLA from Rajarajeshwari Nagar in Bengaluru. An FIR has been filed against him by contractor Chelavaraju, in which he has alleged that the BJP leader harassed and threatened him.

Two separate FIRs were registered

Two cases have been registered against the MLA. In the first case, Munirathna and his four associates, including his aide VG Kumar, his security officer Abhishek and Vasant Kumar, are accused of threatening to kill him. In the second case, Munirathna has been accused of making casteist insults against a contractor.

Contractor released audio clip

Meanwhile, Chelavaraju released an audio clip during a press conference, claiming that Munirathna harassed him for bribe. According to news agency ANI, Karnataka BJP has issued a show-cause notice to Munirathna to clarify his position on the allegations within five days.

Meanwhile, the Dalit Sangharsh Samiti (DSS) has planned to hold a protest outside Munirathna’s house in Bengaluru. The police have beefed up security outside and around Munirathna’s house. Barricades have been put up.

Congress surrounded BJP

Accusing Munirathna of using ‘low level language’, former Congress MP DK Suresh has asked the BJP to expel him from the party as he has ‘insulted Dalits’. DK Suresh said that the national leaders of the BJP should respond to this.
