J&K ACB entraps and arrests police officers, officials

Jammu, September 14: The Anti-Corruption Bureau has received a complaint alleging that public servants, namely, Forest Officer Rashpaul Singh (BO) and Forest Guard Avdesh Singh, demanded a bribe of Rs 15,000 for the work cost of “fencing works, Mawa plantation of Vitex etc., pit planting and patch display at Co. 28/K (Kaneli Nallah), Budhi Block Kathua forest area at a cost of Rs 2,81,290”.

The complainant did not want to pay bribe and had applied to the Anti-Corruption Bureau to take legal action against the public servant suspected of bribery. After receiving the complaint, the Anti-Corruption Bureau conducted careful verification and confirmed that the public servant involved had indeed demanded bribes. Therefore, a case FIR No. 13/2024 was registered at the Jammu Police Station on September 14, 2024 under Section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988 and Section 61(2) of the BNS and an investigation was initiated.

During the investigation, a trap team headed by the Deputy Superintendent of Police was formed. The team successfully laid a trap and in the presence of independent witnesses, two public servants were caught red-handed demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs. 15,000 from the complainant. Both the accused were arrested red-handed by the ACB team after following due process of law. The bribe money was also recovered from them in the presence of independent witnesses associated with the trap team.

In addition, the police also searched the homes of the two defendants in the presence of independent witnesses and local judges. The case is currently under further investigation.
