Neeraj Chopra Diamond League Final: National record holder Avinash Sable finished ninth with a below average time in the Diamond League final. Sable, who turned 30 on Friday, finished ninth among 10 players in his debut Diamond League final in 3000m steeplechase in Brussels with a time of 8 minutes and 17.09 seconds.
In the Diamond League, India will have hope from world champion and Paris Olympics silver medalist javelin thrower Neeraj Chopra, who will be in action late Saturday night. Neeraj’s target will be to throw a javelin throw above 90, which he has not been able to do till date.
Amos Serem of Kenya became the champion
In the 3000m steeplechase, Kenya’s Amos Serem became the Diamond League champion in 8:06.90, while reigning Olympic and world champion Soufiane El Bakkali of Morocco (8:08.60) finished second at the end of the season. Tunisia’s Mohamed Amine Jhinaoui was third in 8:09.68.
Avinash Sable had finished 11th in the Paris Olympic Games with a time of 8:14.18. He finished 14th in the Diamond League overall standings with three points in two events, but four higher ranked athletes, Ethiopia’s Lamecha Girma (injured), New Zealand’s Geordie Beamish, Japan’s Ryuji Mura and USA’s Hilary Bor, were eliminated, making him a part of the top 10 cut-off.

Asian Games champion Sable had finished sixth in the Paris leg of the Diamond League on July 7 with a national record time of 8:09.91, thus bettering his own previous record. He had finished 14th in the Silesia leg on August 25 with a time of 8:29.96.
Will Neeraj be able to cross the 90 meter barrier?
Neeraj Chopra’s best throw is 89.94 meters, which he recorded at the Stockholm Diamond League in Sweden on 30 June 2022. This javelin throw is also recorded as a men’s national record in India and Neeraj Chopra’s personal best. Neeraj has never been able to throw more than this, so the challenge for Neeraj will be whether he will be able to cross the 90 meter barrier or not.

Neeraj won the silver medal on 8 August at the Paris Olympics by throwing the javelin 89.45 meters away. Neeraj’s Diamond League final event will start on Saturday at 1:52 pm. What does the winner of the Diamond League Final get?
Each final champion of the Diamond League season is awarded a ‘Diamond Trophy’, prize money of US$30,000 and a wild card for the World Athletics Championships. It is worth noting that no medal is awarded in the Diamond League.
